Darby did an amazing job, and we couldn't be more proud of her. We adopted her from an elderly French farmer in Dinan, France who gave her a great foundation for her training. Our biggest obstacle was definitely her energy level. We were able to maintain it through rigorous calming exercises, and channeling all of her extra power in the field and ring. "We worked with her tirelessly for months" says Frankie Villa, a botany student who works summers at the lighthouse as an intern."I was so glad the Blacks gave her to me as a project, even though I had only a bit of experience. We both learned a lot, and I can't wait to work with her in the ring." |

We really wanted to challenge her for the sociability portion of the test in particular, as we find her immediate urge is to charge face-first into new friends - human or dog alike. We kept it fairly low-key, with her meeting some of our helpers she has not met before, such as Rhys and Rosalind, in addition to our newer Central Asian Shepherd - who's also undergoing his introductions to the full pack still. She did surprisingly well with the added challenge! She remained eager and excited, but waited for the queue that she could leave her handler's side before saying hello to everyone. |

There was a bit of initial hesitation her part but after some calm sniffing was exchanged, Loki (the pup), won her over with a game of chase! Once the zoomies were out the two were fast buds and introductions with the rest of the family members went smoothly. |

She took right to Loki and was happily pawing at him to play without any extra encouragement and went on to allow Blake to handler her for the rest of the testing portion with an admirable attention span despite clearly wanting to run back and play. |

Working with Arno has been a great experience! He has such a high drive and willingness to learn. We knew from the beginning he would be a challenging pup, but with the right training and handling he's really showing his huge potential. Basic training has gone rather smoothly. A bit wobbly sometimes, but he got the hang of it very quickly. For his sociability we went to meet the Morgans at their ranch. Arno was very playful and didn't shy away at all. He can be a bit of a rough playbuddy sometimes, but with the best intentions. Very happy with his overal progress! |

Willy is our very first Giant Schnauzer and we immediately fell in love with this breed. He has been a blast to work with from the moment he arrived at our kennel grounds. Truely a gentle giant and loving his new family from day 1. His basic commands went very smooth, no special training/attention required. For sociability we took him to a family dinner at the ranch. There he met the rest of the family and he felt very comfortable, being interested in the new people and sniffing them. Overall great experience and great working dog! |

Working with Nina has been a great learning curve for both sides, since she is our first Czech GSD. When she first came to us we noticed her being on the heavier side and we immediatly thought of a training/food program which would help her get back in shape. So we did start training her very soon after she arrived. Her great working drive made her take leaps of progression to this point of taking her BTT. She really got the hang of our basic commands and signs. For sociability we were a bit more unsure, but it went better than we expected. Günther and Nair came by the training field and Nina had no problem with being around strangers. |

Luckily he opened up to me incredibly quick, though I believe that was Brittles doing. Over the last week we've had Pon, he's changed so much for the better. The dull light I saw in his eyes the first day is a roaring fire now. I think he feels he has something to prove, and his slow start in life isn't going to slow him now. Overall, he could have done better, but under the circumstances he did exceptionally well. I'm proud of him and I know he'll be more than ready for the next test! |
