INTERVIEW QUESTIONS
Owner: Love for dogs has been instilled into me since a young age, but I started in the showing world much later. Over the years my family had numerous dogs, both mutts and purebreds, but all leaning more towards a bigger stature and with distinct characters. While I was still in sixth form, a family friend let us know that there were Great Pyrenees puppies looking for a home and that’s when the little guy, later named Mufasa, charmed me. There was some convincing involved with my parents, but eventually he joined us, and I was enamoured by the breed. Shortly after I started university, I met Sonja, and that’s when I was really first introduced to showing with her stories. So, fast forward to today, Raoul and I step into the ring as often as we manage to, all with a touch of healthy competitiveness.
Dog: Raoul is a laid-back, but at times a bit of a headstrong guy. He enjoys to largely spend his time snoozing somewhere on property or in the house, and it’s rare for him to take an interest in goofing around. Being a couch potato, Raoul also isn’t the most enthusiastic when it comes to training. However, due to his calm disposition, he’s lovely to work with during conformation shows. Of course, I partially attribute that to me being his favourite person, but he does have a side to him that enjoys getting out there and working.
How was your year: Competition-wise, 2020 was an excellent year - we placed often and it was great to feel our hard work paying off. We definitely enjoyed all shows we participated in, but a special one for sure was the Atvasara Conformation Show, hosted here in Latvia. For me personally it was very amusing to get in a playful 70’s inspired costume, and overall we had loads of fun.
Extra: As of now, there are no particular plans for Raoul in 2021; as he’s nearing a more mature age, at Dawnle we feel simply continuing to be active in conformation is the best route, also because we do have an exciting prospect in sight - the Bronze Grand Champion title. To sum up, we’ll continue to work and simply enjoy time together, because at the end of the day, there can never be too much cuddling with this big guy.
