INTERVIEW QUESTIONS
Owner: I grew up around various sighthounds, mainly used for hunting, but didn't truly develop an appreciation for them until I inherited the kennel. Emer has always had a special place in my heart, there's just something about her that speaks to me. From all accounts, she was the bully of her litter, biggest and firstborn, and I was absolutely expecting to get an adolescent troublemaker but instead ended up with a quick-witted, noodle with a soft touch. She's the only hound I've ever known that can catch a hare without injuring it and is just as happy to do so.
Dog: On an average day you'd never guess that she's a breed known for elegance and poise - Eme will roll in any puddle, dead animal, or clup of seaweed she can get her little paws on. She's affectionately known as 'Lochán Láibe' (mud puddle) around the village and it pretty aptly describes her preferred state of being. I wasn't at all expecting her to do well in conformation but she's absolutely blown us away over the years. Put this girl in the ring and all traces of lochán láibe behaviour vanishes and that elegant poise truly shines through. Even so, she's at her happiest when chasing down a hare or fox, exactly what I was looking for, and is one of the finest haring dogs I've had the pleasure of working with.
How was your year: We've unfortunately had a pretty slow year as far as competing is concerned, mostly focused on conformation while we got things with the kennel sorted. Life has been busy, that's for sure, and all the dogs have been spending most of their time working instead of competing. Even so, Eme has done well, managing to place in everything she's competed in along with grabbing a couple Judges' favourite nominations - we're incredibly happy with her progress!
Extra: Next up for our girl is likely a litter if we can find a suitable stud but after that plans are still up in the air. Ideally we'll focus in on her coursing and field titles before she's ready for retirement but that's up to her! If nothing else she's got some solid hunting in her future and more hunting dogs that'll be coming into the kennel to mentor.
