Welcome to the German, White, & White Swiss Shepherd Dog Breed Club! With an aim to promote, encourage, educate, and improve the breeding quality of purebred German, White Shepherd, and Berger Blanc Suisse Dogs we maintain the registry for the three breeds as well as offering health testing, genotype testing, and temperament testing for those dogs looking to complete the BST. German Shepherd DogThe German Shepherd Dog is a strong, agile, well-muscled animal, alert and full of life. It is well balanced, with harmonious development of the forequarter and hindquarter. The dog is longer than tall, deep-bodied, and presents an outline of smooth curves rather than angles. It looks substantial and not spindly, giving the impression, both at rest and in motion, of muscular fitness and nimbleness without any look of clumsiness or soft living. The ideal dog is stamped with a look of quality and nobility--difficult to define, but unmistakable when present. LINES As a versatile utility dog, the German Shepherd Dog breed is made up of several different lines that have their own origin, history, and unique traits. These different lines, although all of them are still German Shepherd dogs, can be better suited for different purposes and roles. Each type is valued and respected for what it brings to the breed. White Shepherd DogThe White Shepherd is a medium-sized, well-balanced, muscular dog, slightly longer than tall, with a medium length, pure white coat, erect ears, and a low-set natural tail that normally reaches to the hock and is carried in a slight curve like a saber. The outline of the White Shepherd is made up of smooth curves rather than angles. The White Shepherd is a direct descendant of the German Shepherd Dog. In the first half of the twentieth century, German cavalry officer Max von Stephanitz, created the German Shepherd Dog using a variety of German sheepdogs as his foundation stock. Initially, colour was not considered as long as the dog demonstrated working ability. During the late 30s, however, the white colour fell into disfavor. There were, however, always breeders who appreciated the beauty of the white dogs and who continued to breed them. Because of their exclusion from most German Shepherd Dog breeding programs, the whites rather quickly evolved into a distinct type, and eventually into a separate breed. Berger Blanc Suisse (White Swiss Shepherd)Lively and balanced temperament, enjoys action, attentive with good ability to be trained. Friendly and discreet. High social competence and devoted to his owner. Never afraid or aggressive without provocation. A joyful and easy to teach working and sporting dog with capability for all round education. High social competence allows for a marked ability to adapt and integrate to all kinds of social events and situations. The Berger Blanc Suisse breed is a new breed of dog developed in Switzerland that has been officially recognized by the Federation Cynologique Internationale, the largest international federation of kennel clubs. and are recently descended from German Shepherd Dogs with a recessive trait giving them an all-white coat, much like the White Shepherd breed. The Berger Blanc Suisse was developed separately and they tend to have backs that are more level than the White Shepherd and a much milder temperament. |
